Overview
Efavirenz + Emtricitabine + Tenofovir DF Tablet is a once-daily fixed-dose combination used in first-line therapy for HIV-1 infection. It combines the NNRTI efavirenz with two NRTIs—emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate—to interrupt viral replication at multiple enzyme targets.
Mechanism of Action
Efavirenz (NNRTI) binds to and inactivates HIV reverse transcriptase. Emtricitabine and tenofovir (NRTIs) inhibit viral DNA chain elongation by competing with natural nucleotides.
