Overview
Indivan 400 mg Capsule by Cipla contains Indinavir Sulfate, an HIV protease inhibitor used as part of combination antiretroviral therapy to suppress viral replication and support immune recovery.
Mechanism of Action
Indinavir inhibits the HIV-1 protease enzyme, preventing cleavage of viral polyproteins and blocking viral maturation.
Dosage & Administration
Unboosted dosing: 400 mg every 8 hours on an empty stomach; boosted with Ritonavir may allow once or twice daily dosing. Strict adherence is critical to prevent resistance.
Side Effects & Precautions
- Common: gastrointestinal upset, fatigue, kidney stones, metabolic alterations, lipodystrophy, raised bilirubin.
- Precautions: ensure adequate hydration, monitor renal and metabolic parameters, adjust dosing carefully to prevent resistance.
